Outreach is a buzzword needed in grant applications, but I find it to be an enjoyable hobby. I've designed demonstration experiments (i.e. non-Newtonian fluids) for kids of all ages to enjoy. I've given talks to middle school students and helped with APS's Physics at Six Flags day. I'm currently pondering some new ideas on this front, and am always interested in discussing with others.

Fundamental to mastering outreach and teaching is communication. I've been reading and writing about science for years, and have become fascinated with how science in is communicated to the public. I participated in the Santa Fe Science Writing Workshop in 2011 and was a AAAS Mass Media Fellow in 2012. I currently maintain a blog and Twitter account with reflections on journal articles, science news, and writing, and I contribute to several other blogs.
